Parties, Sand Castles, Street Style & Much More, With Sydney Stylist Laura Mazikana

Fashion week content can be a lot — so we thought about it a while and came to the conclusion that what we really want is an unfiltered peek into the camera roll of some of the coolest people we know.

Who better for the job than Sydney Stylist Laura Mazikana. The multi-talented creative has an eye for detail (proof here and here), along with a super stylish lineup of friends, so we just knew she would come through with some of the best moments of the week.

Not only did she scout out a dazzling array of street style looks, she also headed backstage at Emma Mulholland on Holiday to give us a BTS look at all the best beachy fashion. You won't want to miss a moment from the gallery above!

Name: Laura Mazikana
Nickname: Oh Bestie or Bestie
Star Sign: Sagittarius

For those who don’t already know you, can you give us your elevator pitch:
I am Laura Mazikana, an Eora-based hair artist and fashion stylist.

Best song/soundtrack you heard backstage/at a show:
Beyoncé 'Cosy' mix by Dj GAY-Z, curated by Mirasia for the Next Gen show.

Most surprising thing about the fashion week this year?
Watching the Speed show at Sea Life’s shark tunnel. It was my first time at the aquarium, I found it added so much more feeling and character to the pieces.

Best new person you had the pleasure to meet backstage/during the week:
Elliott Cowen. I’ve been a fan of his work and even more of a fan now after encountering his angelic energy all week.

Top five essentials in your fashion week purse/backpack:
Hand sanitizer + hand cream, portable charger, lip gloss and my favourite fragrance.

Coolest look you saw outside the shows?
The layered all black look with the green NY snapback. I think it’s so impressive to pull off an all black look and make it look interesting whilst still being simple and clean.

Best statement made (at a show/in an outfit/outside a show):
Jubahlee wearing an all red outfit to represent blood foreshadowing the current atrocities happening around the world.

Describe what’s going through your head getting dressed to head to a show:
It’s usually a combination of should I wear these heels/platforms that’ll elevate this look or stick to my Ganni Mary Jane’s to be comfortable.

Best TikTok/YouTube/reel/meme to sum up your week:
My good friend Lynn interviewing a shark at the aquarium for @ausfashionweek. That’s the level of delirious energy I feel from being overstimulated throughout the week but worth it and fun!

What will you be doing to recoup after fashion week?
My friends have organised a fabulous dinner party for the entire weekend to unwind and unpack all the fashion and interactions throughout the week.

What are you looking forward to the most for Australian Fashion Week next year?
Emerging designers and more authentic diversity behind the scenes and in and outside of the shows.
