Jade Hudson

London

— July 3, 2017 —

Jade is a 16-year-old sweetie from North West London. She’s still living out the high school dream, and says her favourite subject is psychology, ‘cause it’s “so interesting and [she] loves being able to apply what [she] learns to everyday life and people [she] knows.” Her favourite thing about school is that it’s like a “home away from home” — for e.g., it’s a “nice escape if you’ve had an argument with your parents or something like that.” Wise words. Despite her big love of school, she’s excited to leave so she can travel to new and exciting places, and meet new peeps.

The certified angel isn’t sure what she wants to do when she grows up — she used to want to be a professional horse rider, but now she’s toying with the idea of a career in advertising. For her, the best thing about being a young person in 2017 is the freedom we have; we can “travel freely and express our views openly.” She’s not sure she’d label herself a feminist, but she does agree with equality — saying that it should be “the label should be equality not feminism.”

She loves that modelling allows her to meet interesting ppl and travel to cool places, but sees the industry as being problematic, because a lot of models aren’t representative of what ‘regular’ women’s body shapes are like. At the moment, she’s vibing hip-hop and grime, and in particular has been giving J Hus’s new album, Common Sense, a good workout. If she could only eat one meal for the rest of her life, it’d be burgers and chips (hell yea!) — she never tires of having it, and her mum is constantly telling her to ease up on the delicious combo.

The best piece of advice that’s been slung her way is to “love yourself”. Even though it’s a bit cheesy (her words), she says we have to “live in these bodies until we pass, so we must learn to love ourselves, and if we can’t do that, how do we expect other people to.” To her, being ‘cool’ means someone who is “comfortable in themselves, and does what they want without being worried about what people are going to think of them.” Yes, gurl!
