All Is A Gentle Spring's Cool Corsetry Debuts at Fashion Week

Gadigal Land

— May 21, 2022 —

Offsite at the Balmain Town Hall, a fresh name made her debut at Afterpay Australian Fashion Week 2022. All Is A Gentle Spring is the creation of Isabelle Hellyer, a Melbourne-based designer with dressmaking in her ancestry — her great grandmother owned a dressmaking shop and her grandmother kept most of the patterns, she told Vogue Australia. In just a few years the brand has garnered attention from high-profile stylists and ended up on the likes of Grimes, Charli XCX and Halsey, as well as a faithful crew of devotees.

The collection is defined by Regency-era shapes and spiral steel boning, accessorised at the presentation with Victorian-style knitted neckbands crafted in collaboration with Melburnian textile artist Nelle Rodis. Far from costume, the designs become thoroughly contemporary via context — paired with a dramatically low pant waistline or punctuated by perfectly smudged eye make-up and dishevelled up-do. CPC friends Jeet Pavlovic and Hunter Monnox looked sweet and sexed-up walking the show, which left the crowd satisfied and anticipating what the brand will do next.
