Australian fashion week may be well and truly over, but the memories live onnnnn.
Next in our camera roll deep dives is the phone of Akuol — a model, aspiring occupational therapist and basketball enthusiast. Having recently moved to Sydney from Canberra, she had a big week walking for some of the best, including one of our faves: Amy Lawrance's AFW debut in The Frontier group show.
Her strategies for passing time backstage vary, but "If friends are around, time flies!!" And if all else fails, she carries a pack of Uno cards in her handbag, cutie <3. Say hi above and below.
Name: Akuol

Give us your elevator pitch:
I’m Akuol, a 22-year-old born in Kenya, but I’ve lived in Canberra since I was a year old. I spent most of my life playing basketball, but now I’m aspiring to become an occupational therapist. Over the past four years, working alongside OTs has sparked my interest in the field.
Where do you live, and where do you call home?
I recently moved to Sydney from Canberra. Having spent most of my life in Canberra, it feels like home — but South Sudan will always be my roots.
A TikTok to sum up how you felt going into fashion week:
Favourite show you took part in?
The Bianca Spender show was my favourite. Hearing her talk about the inspiration behind the clothes and the storyline was moving. She described the walk as peaceful, like letting go, almost like a waterfall.
What do you do to fill time while waiting around backstage?
I usually have my AirPods, so I watch something on YouTube or read a book. If friends are around, time flies!!
Fashion week essentials in your bag:
My AirPods, UNO cards, and Vaseline ;)
A song you've been loving this week:
I’ve been listening to 'Bliss' by Tyla — it just dropped. Also, peaceful piano classics have been a vibe to wind down the week.
