Hometown Girls: Raenee Sydney

Sydney

— April 29, 2018 —

Hello and welcome to our first ever installment of ‘Hometown Girls’, where we’ll be third wheeling our favourite humans as they hang out with their hometowns. To kick things off, we tagged along with model/student Raenee Sydney (@itsrainybaby_) as she showed us her four favourite places to hang in Sydney: Paddy’s Markets, Bronte Baths, Bubble Tea and her super kawaii bedroom.

While Malaysia will always be home to Raenee, she’s been in Sydney for over a decade and has amassed a v extensive list of fun and cute friend hang/date ideas along the way. If she’s not slurping back an icey Chatime beverage or napping with a facemask on, you can cash her outside people-watching at Barangaroo, hiking the coast or eating dessert at ~unconventional~ times down in The Rocks

Whether you’re in town visiting for the first time, or are a local wanting to see Sydney through Raenee’s rose-tinted glasses, know you’ll be living your best life by following her hot tips below…

Where does your mind go when you think of home?
Malaysia. Even though I’ve been here [in Sydney] for the past 11 years, there’s something that always draws me to see Malaysia as my home. Maybe it’s because I’ve moved houses 11 times over the past 11 years, so have never really been settled enough to call one place a home.

What’s your favourite thing about returning home after you’ve been away?
Watering my plants (poor bb’s)! Or doing laundry.

What would your 24-hour itinerary look like if you were to show someone around Sydney who’d never been before?
We’d start with a morning picnic at Arthur McElhone Reserve, then a walk down through Woolloomooloo to the Botanic Gardens. Then, we’d stop by for “lunch” (actually dessert) at Pancakes On The Rocks, and eventually end up at Barangaroo, where we’d sit on Stargazer Lawn with an icy cold beer, and some takeaway jap from Tago-An

What’s a typical day in Sydney like for you?
If I’m not working, then I’m either riding my bike around Sydney, eating gelato at Rivareno, or chilling at home. And by chilling, I mean napping with a face mask on.

Best refreshments can be found at:
Chatime! Or $1 frozen coke from McDonalds

Best shopping is:
Paddy’s Market

Favourite spot to chill out:
Stargazer Lawn, Barangaroo.

Best place to take a dip:
Fingal Bay, Port Stephens.

Best nature walk:
The hike and abseil down to Blue Fish Point in Manly.

If Sydney were an emoji:
[̲̅$̲̅(̲̅ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°̲̅)̲̅$̲̅] because everything is so expensive. But also (o˘◡˘o) because it is still a very beautiful city.

If Sydney were a YouTube video:

If Sydney were a colour:
Baby blue. To mimic the skies, ocean and jellyfishes.
