Love (And Gucci) in the Time of Lockdown

Sydney

— July 4, 2020 —

Creative couple Josie and Harrison shot, art directed and styled each other in a mashup of Gucci pre-fall looks. The results? *Chef’s kiss.*

Like the iconic fashion couples that have come before them—Rick Owens and Michèle Lamy, Viktor and Rolf, and Shaun Leane and Alexander McQueen—Josephine Musgrave and Harrison Kennedy’s romance is underscored by their shared creative vision.

No greater is this exemplified than in their above isolation shoot. Our pal Miguel Urbina Tan was on-hand to help sort their (very steezy) wardrobes, but the love birds took care of everything else. They photographed, art directed and styled each other in a bunch of Gucci pre-fall looks—backdropped by an ultra fancy location—and gosh darn the results are kawaii af.

We spoke to Josie and Harrison about freedom, their meet cute, and what love in the time of lockdown looked like for them. Get to know them below…

Josephine Musgrave (a.k.a Josie)

When you hear the word ‘home’, where does your mind go?
Home truly is where the heart is for me. When I feel safe and supported by my surroundings and the people around me, I feel at home.

What does freedom look like to you?
Freedom is being able to take control of your own life. It’s being able to pursue your dreams and not feel like the whole world is working against you.

Can you tell us the story of how you and Harrison met?

We met in an acting workshop that both of our agents pushed us to do to help with confidence in castings. Everyone had to do an introduction, and that’s when we both noticed we had a shared interest in creating art and doing more outside of the modelling industry. After that we started working on a few projects together and quickly realized there was more than a professional connection between us!

What’s your favourite thing to do together?
I love when we go out and explore new places. I haven’t been in Australia very long so I’m always down to go out and see something new with Harrison.

Did you learn something new about yourself/each other during isolation?
I learned that I need to be active and outside in order to stay refreshed and motivated. Being cooped up inside definitely does not help me to be my best self.

Because it was a newer relationship at that point, we both realised we really enjoyed doing other activities to help facilitate conversation and bring out new things in each other that we didn’t know were there before. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good cuddle, but it’s the quality time we’ve gotten to spend together trying new activities that I appreciate the most.

What was the first thing you did once things went back to ~normal?
We went to different beaches and had picnics, and we went to the Hunter Valley so I could see wild kangaroos, which was THE BEST.

What social or cultural issues are most important to you, and why?
I am very passionate about my distaste for the meat industry and animal abuse. I believe that all animals are loving creatures capable of having connections and emotions and 99% of the meat industry takes advantage of them in an excessive way. It’s just not necessary.

Also, the Black Lives Matter movement. I've always noticed that racism never truly ended, so I’m excited to see what this movement does for the black community!

What does your idea of a Utopia look like?
Living in a decent sized apartment in NYC with exposed brick walls, tons of plants, a huge dog, surrounded by people I love. I would be shooting fashion campaigns for brands I support, I would have a healthy daily routine that I actually stuck to, and I would be truly happy. That would be perfect.

Best book?
I don’t really enjoy novels—I can only finish a book if it's educational or about a topic I’m super interested in. I recently read The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg and loved it. That being said, I did enjoy the audio book for Call Me by Your Name, probably because it was read by Army Hammer.

Best movie?
Forrest Gump. I don’t think I need to say anything else.

Best song?
I love listening to whole albums, rather than random songs. My music taste is all over the place and I've spent 20 minutes trying to narrow it down but the best I can do is any album by John Mayer, Queen or Tame Impala. Or Elton John. Or Amy Winehouse. I always go back to those five artists.

Best thing on the internet?
Dog memes for sure.

What words do you live by?
Treat others the way you want to be treated. This applies to so many aspects of my life! It’s the little things in life that get you through the day, so whenever possible, I try to pay it forward and put a smile on someone's face.

Harrison Kennedy (a.k.a Harri)

When you hear the word ‘home’, where does your mind go?
Home is a place that I feel comfortable, free and grounded. Growing up near the ocean, it has become a big part of my life and my home. Whenever I travel, the one thing that helps keep me grounded and ensures that I stay strong is swimming and just being in the ocean.

What does freedom look like to you?
Freedom is the ability to feel and be yourself. To be able to be comfortable in yourself and do the things that you love.  For me this is expressed through the activities and hobbies I do.

Can you tell us the story of how you and Josie met?
We met at IMG acting class and realised that we have similar interests outside of modelling, including photography and overall creation. We then worked on a few shoots and soon realised that it was something more than a working relationship.

What’s your favourite thing to do together?
While I enjoy doing outdoor activities, my absolute favourite thing to do with Josie is spending time indoors, enjoying a cup of tea, talking to each other about topics we are interested in and watching funny movies.

Did you learn something new about yourself/each other during isolation?
I learnt that the most important thing is routine. Once I started sticking to a schedule, I started to accomplish so much more in my day. I learnt that being in a relationship is about teamwork and communication—everything's better if you work together.

What was the first thing you did once things went back to ~normal?
I went out and caught up with some of my school friends, we just had a nice dinner and spoke about what had been happening in our lives. Really loved catching up with them and reconnecting those relationships.

What social or cultural issues are most important to you, and why?
I believe an important issue is equality among all races and cultures. I believe you should treat people the same no matter who they are. There should be no discrimination because of the way you were born. We should be looking after one another. At the end of the day, we are all human.

What does your idea of a Utopia look like?
Utopia for me is to feel free. To be surrounded by the people I love. To be able to express and be creative with no boundaries.

Best book?
My all time favourite book is The Finisher by David Baldacci. I remember first reading this book when I was 13. I loved the way the characters were described and it allowed me to delve into a world that was so fascinating and adventurous. This is still my favourite book to this day.

Best movie?
My favourite movies are mostly comedy as I love a good laugh. I grew up watching Dumb and Dumber with my dad so it holds a special place in my heart.

Best song?
I love rap music, especially from Australian artists, including the likes of Kid Laroi and Youngn Lipz. I love to support our up-and-coming Australian talent and think that they are making really creative and catchy songs. My favourite song would be ‘Misunderstood’ by Youngn Lipz—I love the beat.
Best thing on the internet?

This is going to seem like a weird answer but Google. I’ve been dealing with technical issues lately and Google has saved me—from learning how to fix my laptop to dealing with website glitches.

What words do you live by?
I live by the motto, “Strive to do what you love.” I’m lucky enough to be doing exactly that: Being creative.
