Five Favourites From Macgraw’s AAFW Presentation

Gadigal Land

— May 24, 2023 —

Hostesses with the mostess, Beth & Tessa Macgraw, invited us over for an afternoon soiree at their newest baby blue boutique in Sydney’s esteemed Paddington burb. Between the puffed sleeves, bonnets, berets and one very cute pooch, there are a few things we still can’t seem to get off our minds…

Puffs, cuffs, Peter Pan collars and prints
Need we say more? Puffed-sleeved minis and preppy overcoats in brocade blue paired with knee-high socks had us let out an audible “Oh My Godddddd.” Gold buttons adorned on Peter Pan collared mini-dress-coats and accented with berets had us wishing we were born in the years when colour TV was first introduced Down Under. One show-stopper, in particular, was a white, square-necked, puffed long-sleeve, thigh-length dress which, in our eyes has taken the cake as the go-to to say “I do” in for the foreseeable future.

Old Friends
An afternoon soiree isn’t a soiree at all if you don’t catch up with some old friends. From a fleeting Parisian visit where we shot and interviewed Holly Magson amongst the cobble streets in Macgraw some years ago to a rendezvous with Jasmine O'Neil before covid and a chat with Taara Mclean just last year, It felt like decades since we’d seen our fav faces. All sporting the collection and playing the part of a swinging ’60s fashion phenomenon, a well-overdue squeeze and squeal was had by all parties.

New Friends
Just like old friends, fashion is a place to make new ones. Joining the already acclaimed cast were fresh faces Grace Monfries and Alexa Lourdy. For reasons that need no explanation (please see imagery above!), these two singlehandedly made us add every item they flaunted to our already VERY long list of Macgraw must-haves.

Eye-conic makeup
We’re officially calling it. This is the year of a bold blue eye, and we only have one brand to thank. Executed by Sydney-based makeup artist Molly Warkentin, Magraw models sported baby blue hues in a range of formations that Twiggy herself would be proud of.

Say Bonjour to a new boutique
Perfectly positioned on the corner of Paddington’s prominent William and Dudley street lies Macgraws newest maison and backdrop for last week’s presentation. Wrapped up in a sky blue bow, a colour which has jumped right to the top of our seasonal colour palette, and decorated by the preexisting Victorian Free balcony, models descended staircases and waved elegantly off terraces sporting the newest Bridgerton-approved collection.
