Chilling With 4 Fresh Faces on Gadigal Land

Gadigal Land

— July 10, 2022 —

We’re only one month into winter down here in the Southern Hemisphere, and it’s probably fair to say we’re over it. From the cold and wet weather to the undeniable traffic, it’s most certainly the time to stay indoors, work from home, connect with loved ones and have a cup of good ol’ Milo while cosied up in a warm but extremely uncool look.

While you’re snuggled up on the couch with that cuppa, how about getting to know these 4 fresh faces—Jasper, Aasha, Temka and Luca. Scroll down to delve into their favourite books and films, find out who they’d cast in their biopic and how they unwind at the end of the day. Then flick through the gallery above and dream of all the fun fashion you can venture out in when the weather clears up.

From Gucci’s 'souvenir' print jacket and plaid pants—which would be as at home in a retirement village as they were on the runway—to Bottega Veneta’s textured denim two-piece, this fashion is sure to inspire!

Name: Luca Leggo
Nickname: Luca
Age: 20
Star sign: Gemini

Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?
I grew up all over the place in Sydney, from Macquarie Fields to Cabramatta to West Ryde. This honestly has helped me plug into a culture more than anything else in my life, having something to relate to with people from all walks. I now live near St Leonards station which is epic.

Coolest thing you’ve learned recently?
I like to think there is a cool thing to 'learn' from every little detail that goes past, be it good or bad. The sound, the look, the anything of anything can be taken in in some way and turned into something.

Then the intent or idea that can be created from these tiny little 'somethings' you observe are the things that end up forming the way you are and what you create.
So I guess understanding this a bit more recently and observing these details is in a way the coolest thing I've learnt.

But if I'm not answering the question in some annoying pretentious way: I heard that the moon was only tidally locked (orbit lines up so we can only see one side) to the earth 100 million years ago which considering its been around for 4 billion years is pretty awesome.

Who would play you in a film about your life?
Maybe someone like Vincent Cassel, I really really enjoyed his performance in La Haine.

What are you most proud of this year?
I just finished some artworks and songs which are finally reaching a standard that I always hoped they could. Showing myself that I can do it. Wooooo :)))))

Best book/documentary/film you’ve devoured recently?
Last week I watched Memento. Christopher Nolan's cinematography in the film is sooo slick. Makes me want to make a movie.

How do you unwind at the end of the day?
I usually just try to consume some form of media, be it film, music, whatever. To then hopefully give me that excited feeling as I go to sleep to push something into the next day. Looking back at this it doesn't seem too unwindy. Maybe I should unwind more.

Name: Aasha Darlington
Nickname: Afro Samurai
Age: 17
Star sign: Gemini

Where did you grow up, and where do you live now?
I grow up in North West Sydney in Glenhaven and I am currently living in North West Sydney in Pennant Hills.

Coolest thing you’ve learned recently?
The coolest thing I have learned recently is how to build a short ram air intake in my garage for my new Subaru.

Who would play you in a film about your life?
Will Smith for sure.

What are you most proud of this year?
Most definitely me buying my first car which is a pretty cool car that took me a while to save up for.

Best book/documentary/film you’ve devoured recently?
Bleed for this, it’s a movie/documentary about a boxer that breaks his neck and can never fight again and makes a massive comeback and wins world championship. It’s a really heart warming movie with a great ending.

How do you unwind at the end of the day?
At the end of most days I go to the gym and keep pushing towards my goals. It helps keep me centered and relaxed and always makes me calm down when I’m upset, angry, or have had a rough day.
