Heavenly human Mikka grew up in Wellington, New Zealand, and now lives in Sydney, Australia. With a social worker for a mum, Mikka was quick to learn the value of compassion and empathy in life. If you were ever to visit him in Wellington, he’d take you to Hunters & Collectors: “[It’s a] lovely designer second-hand store on Cuba street, and I love and miss the two that work there.”
The best part of his job as a model has been learning new skills and being proud of the end product, and the most challenging is jostling with his perfectionism. The biggest lesson quarantine taught him was not to postpone things, and also how much he loves to create. The first thing he does in the morning is read the news—Reddit, Twitter and the BBC—and if he could only eat one meal for the rest of his life, it’d be chicken satay naan. Delish!
The coolest thing he has learned recently was how to implement live physics in augmented reality (!). Skipping the usual yoga or meditation route, he instead prefers to unwind by going for a ride on his motorbike and screaming along to the lyrics of whatever song is playing, “because no one can hear me on my loud bike!”.
He’s currently reading The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss, his favourite movie is Closer and a song he’ll never tire of is ‘Never Tired As When I’m Waking Up’ by LCD Soundsystem.
Friendships are super important to him, because “they keep us grounded.”
