Our pal Sherry Lin has test-driven two excellent pairs of knee-highs below from Chanel and Miu Miu, activating the start of the festive season. As we wrap up 2023, it won’t just be excellent fashion you’re searching for, but instead fresh mantras to sail you into the new year. Look no further. Sherry’s advice for making the most of our time on Earth? “Go for things without caring about what others might think,” she says.

Where do you live now and where do you consider home?
I moved to Sydney at the age of eight and have lived here ever since, but since I have a strong attachment to my family, I always consider myself to have two homes — one in the sunny suburb of Sydney and one in the town in China where my grandparents live.
Where would you take someone visiting your hometown for the first time?
The morning market (that opens at 5)! They are so vibrant and full of delicious food! The people there are super nice as well even though I can't understand them 99% of the time because they speak in dialects.
What is your idea of happiness?
Doing what I love, travelling around the world to see different places and meeting new people.
How did you get into modelling? Can you tell us the story of how you came to be signed to your agency?
It's just like any other typical story - shopping with my mom and just getting scouted by my agent. At first I thought it was some sort of scam because I didn't think I would be capable, but then a bit of research helped and after going into my agency everything just worked out from there.
If you could only eat one meal for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Probably rice as an Asian, been eating that for my whole life.
Are you a morning person or a night owl?
Sadly a night owl even though my parents urged me to become a morning person, they always say: 'one is the most productive in the morning'!
How can we make the most of our time on Earth?
Don't PROCRASTINATE. And go for things without caring about what others might think.
Favourite song?
4 Walls by f(x) for now, it changes every couple months though.
What values do you look for in friends?
Supportive, caring, and willing to point out my flaws.
What are you most looking forward to next year in 2024?
Definitely doing some sort of campervan trip in an Asian country or around Europe after the HSC, but I guess for now that's still quite some time away.
What is the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?
I always set an alarm for myself the night before and as a matter-of-fact I do get awakened, but I just turn the alarm off and give myself another 5 minutes in bed.
Best Tiktok/reel you've seen recently?
I'm actually such a Frenchie person! So I have to say the best reel I've watched recently was this video of a Frenchie trying to reach for a piece of tissue on the table with its paws, and it tries to blow the tissue to the edge after realising they couldn't reach it. I think I must have put the video on loop for the whole day ;D
What would happen if you had to give up on social media for a week?
At first it would be hard to get used to, but considering that I've had a history of ghosting my friends for three months during Covid quarantine because I couldn't be bothered to check any updates on my social life, I reckon I'd be able to make it through anyways.
